Word Splash

Materials Needed

Collection of key terms or concepts from written passage students are about to read, usually on an overhead or a chart.

Instructions

The words are randomly visually displayed.  Students brainstorm complete statements that predict the relationship between the terms and the main topic. After generating the statements, students read the materials and check for accuracy of their predictive statements.

Notes

Be sure that after the reading takes place, students correct their written predictive statements. This can also be used with videos, speakers, etc. Can also be used as a summarizer either by having their own Word Splash, or by using the teacher created one to write a multi-paragraph summaryhis or her question as part of a whole class review.
